Gulab Awards 2003 / Gulab Puroskar 2003 The prestigious Gulab awards for the year 2003 instituted by the former editor of Gulab, the late Fr. Freddy J. da Costa in the name of GULAB, the only Konkani Illustrated monthly will be presented on November 26, 2004 from 3.30 pm onwards at a special function to be held at Gomant Vidya Niketan Hall, Margao, with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Guest. The awards which are said to be to Goa what Filmfare awards is to the Indian film industry and Oscars to the world cinema, have an additional award this year. This year a new category of Best Comedian has been added. This year, the awards will be presented in a different manner, with the winners names being declared at the function itself. The nominees for the awards are: Man of the Year: Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao, Former MLA & reputed lawyer Uday Bhembre, and Noted Konkani activist late Felicio Cardoso. Best writer in Roman Konknni: Fr. Moreno D'Souza s.j., S M Borges, and Cursinho Pinho. Best Sportsperson: Robert Fernandes, Francis Silveira (alias Pocket), and Seby Dias Awards for Konkani stage artistes: Best Writer: Ben Evangelisto for "Devak Zai Zalear", John D'Silva for "Porddo", and Roseferns for "Maim, Tuzo Put Hanv". Best Director: Jose Rod for "Devan Dilem Devcharan Velem", Mario Menezes for "Tiatr Somplo Cholat Ghara", and Ben Evangelisto for "Devak Zai Zalear". Best Musician: Josinho for "Devan Dilem Devcharan Velem", Juju Fernandes for "Devak Zai Zalear", and Juju Fernandes for "Maim Tuzo Put Hanv". Best Actor: Jose Rod for "Devan Dilem Devcharan Velem", Mathew Araujo for "Devak Zai Zalear", and Ulhas Tari for "Maim Tuzo Put Hanv". Best Actress: Sabina for "Tiatr Somplo Cholat Ghara", Annie Quadros for "Rudan", and Antonette de Calangute for "Maim Tuzo Put Hanv". The award for best comedian will be decided by a panel of experts appointed by the Gulab publishers. The awards which normally used to be presented on July 20, were delayed this year due to the tragic death of Gulab editor and publisher Fr. Freddy J. da Costa.
