Dear Goanetters, Many of you will remember Dr.Julian Gonsalves, the champion for the upliftment of the poor through affirmative action. Millions have benefitted in India, Nepal, Pakistan, Laos,Camboia, Vietnam, Philippines, etc through his intervention for multi-lateral donor agencies to fund documentation of NGO initiatives, farmer to farmer and lab to farmer transfer of cultivation technology and capacity building among local people for sustained[ not just sustainable] poverty alleviation. He remains a simple man, as comfortable sleeping on a mat as in a 7-star hotel room. One year back he lost his wife to the Big C. He still works relentlessly for the poor. Tara is a person anyone who knows her would want to thank the Good Lord for. I believe that Eternity begins from NOW...our life on Earth. She lived her life well for us to extrapolate how it will be in eternity. It can only be better. I find the typical Catholic concept that eternity begins after death hard to stomach. "Next life" maybe. "Eternity" has to begin with life, not death...unless one believes in "eternal rest"[ read "Eternal death] as prayed for in the cemetery. I believe the "conversion of the soul" changes the validity of our warranty from a few years on Earth[with possible 'roaming' facility to space and moon] to an "universal perpetual warranty".[ I also know that agnostics and atheists will grant me my belief, though they may not accept it as their own.] I believe Tara has that. Eternal life. ----- Original Message ----- From: julian Gonsalves Last night I went to Thanksgiving dinner at a American Family place. Last year when I was in hospital they took me out of there for four hours. My first and only break from the four walls of the hospital ...and Tara was happy to see me go. I brought her Turkey from that event. She always loved turkey but could not eat what I brought back. Thats when I knew how sick she really felt Julian REMEMBERING TARA ON THE 1st ANNIVERSARY It seems just yesterday that we were in her warm presence but it will be one year on 01 December that MARY THOMAS GONSALVES [wife of Dr.Julian Gonsalves, Goa/Philippines] left for her heavenly abode. Tara will be remembered during the regular Eucharistic Celebration at St.John the Baptist Church,Cana-Benaulim on 01 December at 07.45 A.M. followed by prayers at the niche in the cemetery for the gift of Tara to us till her golden year. [The main service is being held in Tagatay,Philippines] I was privileged to know Tara for the last half a dozen years of her life. Viva Goa. Miguel
