seems pretty dumb for Adv.Herculano Dourado, ex-MLA of Vasco , to be the President of the Goa Hockey Association[GHA] and to represent GHA at Athens Olympics recently

Neither, Miguel. It was just a lot of hot air. Any resemblances to the reality in situ was purely coincidental ;-) As you rightly point out, there are lots of facts to show what I said was incorrect.

In fact, my post was a kind of flame-bait meant to get some Africander Goans interested in this debate, and join in.

Well, I must say the attempt failed miserably. So permit me to try again:

It's ten minutes to midnight, and in between these lines my photographer friend and former Herald colleague Lui Godinho (now in London) phoned. He was telling me about the waves of Goan migration into the UK, based on place of origin and route/time of entry, and how this shapes attitudes today. Interesting stuff!

I couldn't help mentioning what a priest had said the other day: the late 'sixties and 'seventies in Goa had brought in a generation of ex-Africander Goans who lent a whole lot of vibrancy to life here. That's true. We saw it happen in our younger days. Suddenly villages were vibrant, and culture took on new shape.

Today, a number of 'settlers' from other states (you get the good and the bad, of course, we're talking of the former) are playing a similar role.

Okay, if Miguel or anyone else proves me wrong on this, them I'm going to argue again that this too was just a 'flame bait' meant to enthuse debate on Goanet. We really need some answer for the persistent query over why we have so many silent readers inspite of Goanet's claimed readership ;-)
