I know plenty of Goans who never went to Africa [and hence not Afrikanders] who played hockey in the 1960s and 1970s. there were regular tournaments in hockey. Even Aldona Institute used to organise a 6-a-side tourney. I played hockey,so did my sister Fatima[now Antao] who was a contemporary of Herculano in SXC. Ana Figueira and Lilian D'Costa Fernandes entered Customs through hockey. They are still around. Hockey needs a push at the school level. It needs visionaries like Alberto Colaco and Savio Messias are for AIFF and Goa Football Association. Funds have to be raised and spent on training and tournaments. There is no other way. Viva Goa.
