So the next time you feel obliged to avoid being unduly critical of IFFI, we'll understand ;-)

Panaji is all spruced up and the cinemas are fantastic. Even if Goa is not made the permanent venue for IFFI it will be worth it since Goa will attract the National and International Convention trade.

How true. Cities like Frankfurt have built their reputation with products from the world over coming to sell themselves to people from the world over at the many trade fairs held there.

The only problem is that with Goa's lack of vital infrastructure
that matters, it would currently mean that every convention
would require (i) the closing down of the Kala Academy or its
shifting out of its venue, if only for a few days
(ii) pedestrianising, under duress not choice, the main
        throughfare of Panjim, DB Road.

Have you seen the state of the toilets in the Kala Academy?
There's better than those in many international airports!
And I don't mean Sahar ;-) One wonder how many lakhs/crores went
down the drain there, literally. With the government's
inability to maintain its investments being legendary, we'll need
to revist these places after awhile to see the lasting change.

My concern is over a related issue: Kala Academy used to be a
pretty unaccessible place in which to organise an event.
It tends to get booked out months in advance. Now, with the
multi-crore expenditure, the freezing airconditioners to maintain,
etc, it's going to be all the more difficult for smaller players
to probably get access to its facilities. Wish someone could
prove me wrong over this. -FN
