He was speaking at the valedictory function of the two-day seminar on the Opportunities in Biotech Industry for SSI sector, at Hotel Got Marriott, Miramar. (GT) FOUR-LANING OF PERNEM HIGHWAY: The State government has decided in principle to undertake the four-laning of the road (105 km). Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on December 12 that the State government would complete the four-laning work of the road in 18 months from the time the work order is given. How the State government plans to four-lane stretches of NH-17 which are running through residential areas is still not known. (H) CT SCAN ON JUNIOR'S BODY: The Cristiano de Lima Junior saga took another intriguing turn when the FIFA Medical Commission ordered for a CT scan to be done on the body of the Brazilian striker. (H) DELIMITATION PANEL COMING TODAY: The Delimitation Commission headed by Justice Kuldip Singh is arriving in Goa on December 13 to hold public hearings to the draft proposals for the delimitation of 40 Assembly and two Parliamentary constituencies in Goa. (GT) POWER CUTS IN PORVORIM: The Porvorim Residents Welfare Association is up in arms against the government for imposing frequent power shut-downs for almost eight to ten hours each day since the beginning of IFFI 'due to diversion of power to Panaji'. (GT) ADDL RS.30 CR FOR HEALTH: The Health Minister, Dr Suresh Amonkar, inaugurated the workshop on "Health Police in Goa", organized by the NRI Goa Facilitation Centre at Miramar Residency, Miramar. The workshop held discussion on topics like tertiary health care, health tourism and trauma including public and private participation. Dr Amonkar said that Goa is the only State to increase the financial allotment of health policy by Rs.30 crore. He also congratulated the NRI Centre for holding the workshop. (NT) STRUCK OFF FROM MEDICLAIM LIST: The recognition granted to D Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai for the purpose of availing super specialized treatment which are not available in the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, is withdrawn with immediate effect, states a press note issued by the Department of Information. (NT) FATALLY KNOCKED DOWN: Marcus Caitan Fernandes, a 60-year-old man from Carrascovaddo, Mapusa, was killed on December 12 morning, after he was knocked down by a car on the National Highway, near Peddem. Marcus was proceeding to church to attend the mass at around 6.30 am when he was knocked down. (H) MISSING MAN'S BODY FOUND: The body of Luciano Menezes (58), Sucaldem, Chinchinim, who had been missing since December 10, was found floating in the pond, in which he had gone for fishing. Margao Fire Brigade personnel had unsuccessfully searched the entire stretch of the pond. (H) DR JORGE LOBO'S DEATH CONDOLED: The Rotary Club of Panaji condoled the death of its former president and Rotary District Governor of, Dr Jorge Ataide Lobo who passed away at Oeiras, Portugal, on 3 December. He was 84.
