TO: "Joe Lobo" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Joe Lobo says to Halur Rasho: The problem with living next door to a giant like the USA...not very unlike how Pakistan has to live with a populous (prolific...as in population growth) with Mother India next door, as one has to shift, as the heavier neighbour moves, to avoid being squished (or squashed as they say in proper English.)....but as Chairman Mao of Chinese history said, "All power grows out of the barrel of a good gun"....and you americans now hold the gun on the UN and any one who dares to defy the future designs of your "oil-provider for the future" Texas president....and like the British Empire who thought that the planet belonged to them ...the future will present small problems.
Mario replies: Where does one start to respond to something like this? Are we being just a tad cynical here, Joe? Are you pulling our legs, huh? By the way, did Chairman Mao really say that it had to be a "good" gun? I thought he said any old "gun" would do. Anyway, I digress. I didn't know we Americans held a gun on the UN! Must not be one of Mao's "good" guns, because the last time I checked, Kofi Annan, who has obviously not read UN resolution 1441, said that the US-led liberation of Iraq was "illegal", France had threatened to veto any consequences on Saddam for not complying with that resolution, "no matter what", the UN was refusing to go along with the US's proposal to qualify the killing in Darfur as a genocide, and Kofi Annan was refusing to turn over evidence in the oil-for-food scam to the US. In 1991, the UN would not let the US go after Saddam beyond the Kuwait border. What kind of gun is that, huh Joe? Not very good, I'd say. And what kind of retaliation did we see from the EVIL "oil-provider-for-the- future" Texas president? Opposition to the calls for Kofi Annan's resignation, at least until the investigating committees had finished their jobs. Strange way for the EVIL Texas president to behave if he thinks like the British that the planet belongs to the US. Also, the last time I checked, it was Pakistan that was threatening to use its nuclear arsenal if India even thought about attacking it. Not something someone worried about being squished, or squashed, would say, is it Joe? I don't know where you live, Joe, but the US is less dependant on foreign oil than most of the European countries as well as Japan and China. Plus we have a lot locked up that we are not using right now that can access in a pinch. So, if we do guarantee that world oil supplies will not be disrupted, it is those countries that will benefit the most. Unless you think that the world can run on empty? Furthermore, if the US really wanted to capture mid-east oil, why did they walk away from Kuwait and Iraq in 1991, when they had their oil basically in US control? Something to think about, huh Joe? Finally, regarding thinking like the British that the planet belongs to them, can you put together for us a list all the countries that are US colonies? My memory must be failing, but I can't think of even one. And please don't say Canada, Joe, because Tim and Mervyn will really go nuts.
