PRESS STATEMENT
All India Catholic Union and The Bombay Catholic Sabha gear up for
Operation Tsunami Relief Work.
The All India Catholic Union [AICU ] has urged each of the Diocesan Units
where the tragedy has struck with a vengeance to set-up a task force to
co-ordinate the relief work. It has also alerted the rest of the Units all
over the country to help raise resources for this calamnity. This will be
done in close collaboration with the Catholic Bishops Conference of India
[CBCI], Caritas and the local Diocesan efforts.
At the Mumbay level, The Bombay Catholic Sabha [BCS] has already extended
its whole hearted support to the Archbishop of Bombay, Cardinal Ivan Dias
and collaborate with the Centre for Social Action. Shri Lavy D'costa ,
Secretary General of the BCS has already met with Rev. Fr. Rocky Banz ,
Director , Centre for Social Action to discuss the ways and means to work
on this relief programme. The BCS has already alerted its Units and urged
its members to put their whole heart and soul in this campaign which is
the need of the hour.
Mumbai has always shown the way in reaching out to any calamity with speed
and generosity. We therefore appeal to all wellwishers to have a low key
New Year celebrations and contribute to the relief fund.
