Fernandobab,

The tragedy is bad enough

The negligence of those in authority - is another . These Islands are
bang NEXT to Sumatra - the site of deveastating earthquakes in the
past, and yet ... NO warning systems against Sunamis were in place.

What was the NIO doing?

But please, Fernandobab..... please do NOT place these Islands in the
Bay of Bengal. That they are NOT!

These Islands with a negrito population - are NEXT to Indonesia and
Thailand. The first colonialists of those Islands were the Marathas in
the 1700s

having said that

good wishes for 2005!

jose

RESPONSE: I have heard on the News that even if there were Tsunami warnings for those closest to the epicentre, it would have been to no avail. The Tsunami hit them within a few minutes. An example was given of a Tsunami in Japan - an alarm was raised but too late to save over 200 people. In the case of India mainland there was a 90 minute time lapse - it would have been sufficient for warnings. The Indian Govt. has now issued a statement stating that it will join the Tsunami warning system.

cheers,

Gabe.
