TSUNAMI TOLL TOPS 1,16,000: The death toll from Sunday's tsunamis has jumped sharply to over 1,16,000 after Indonesia reported nearly 80,000 people were killed in that country alone. (GT) FRESH TSUNAMI SCARE PROVES UNFOUNDED: in the wake of reports about fresh tsunamis hitting Eastern India, the State government went into high alert on Thursday and informed hotels not to allow clients to enter the water as a precautionary measure. (GT) CENTRE LOWERS ALERT: Goa which was earlier in the day put on alert after a fresh note of warning was received by district authorities of the possibility of another tsunami tidal wave hitting the Indian Ocean, heaved a sigh of relief as nothing unusual was experienced.With the centre withdrawing its 'alert' instructions, the situation returned to normal on Thursday evening. (H) NOTHING COMMUNAL IN DOCUMENTARY: FREEDOM FIGHTERS: About 150 freedom fighters who watched the controversial documentary at a special screening held at Kala Academy by the education department stated that the documentary is factual yet it fails to do justice to large contributions of freedom fighters. (H) HELLO CM.RAVES ARE HAPPENING! If you are in Anjuna at this time of the year you surely won't miss a rave party. Never mind the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's statement, "If you inform me of a rave party when it is on, I will come in my private vehicle" or "show me, I will take action immediately". Incidentally, a rave party was kicking off at a well-known party zone in Anjuna on Thursday (December 30) since morning. Loud music was playing, but when contacted the Anjuna PI Lawrence D'Souza said that the party had prior permission and hence the police could not stop the party. (H) CITIZENS CAN COMPLAIN ONLINE: With the launching of its website wherein citizens can lodge complaints online, the State vigilance department is expecting more members of the public to blow the whistle on corrupt government servants. "Anybody can log in at http://vigilance.goa.gov.in and register as user under his own id and password," the director of vigilance, Mr Ashwini Kumar told The Navhind Times on December 30.
