An appalling decision to play upon a disaster to
further one's own agenda. "365 days of calamity-free
tourism"? Bollocks I say. The gods of tourism in Goa
have forgotten the stormy monsoons.

Monsoons are otherwise great to those who have never
seen rain (e.g desert dwellers), but they do tend to
go over the top at times, uprooting trees et al. True
fury of nature is all there to see, though perhaps not
on a scale of earthquakes, volcanoes and the recent
tsunami.

What about the dangers of contracting malaria or being
injured / killed in Goa's awful road-traffic? Have
they so soon forgotten the food-poisoning that hit
Panjim's restaurants in August 2003?  Aren't these
calamities?

Before they go to promote Goa as a calamity-free area,
the authorities (aka Mr. Parrikar) ought to go about:

a) reducing the mosquito menace (a la Dr. Froilano de
Mello);

b) ensuring adherence to law and order both in traffic
and social behaviour;

c) reducing the corruption endemic at all Govt levels;

d) ensuring a fault-free power-supply;

e) and most of all, ensuring a clean and a 24-hour
water supply throughout Goa.

Cheers,

Gabriel.
