VCD NEITHER WITHDRAWN NOR WITHHELD: On January 4, the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, under pressure from its coalition partner - the UGDP - declared that the controversial VCD on Goa's Freedom struggle will be withdrawn immediately. However, nearly six days later, when GT contacted the Education Department, the concerned authorities informed that the VCD has not been withdrawn from the secondary schools. But the distribution of the VCD has been stopped, they added. The VCD is still with 460 schools in Goa. (GT)
RESPONSE: This is the procrastinating C.M. He should be Pushed or made to jump. The UGDP should demand an immediate withdrawal of the VCD. This VCD was sent to schools making it compulsory for them to show it and report back to confirm that they had acted accordingly. Then comes the remark from the C.M. (off the back foot) that schools were not compelled to show the VCD. If this really is the case then why did the Government spend 40 Lakhs on a VCD which would only be shown to those willing to see it? What a waste of Tax Payer's money and what a load of baloney from the C.M.
