The Times of India (Mumbai) carried this front page story on Jan 13 titled "Now, B'lore's turn to be Gurgaoned: Mumbai, Delhi in Middle of BPO Hotspot Rung: Survey".
The survey, carried out by Neo-IT, is known as the Offshore City Competitive Index (OCCI) of 27 Indian cities (including "Goa") that are considered the most attractive ITO/BPO services destinations. According to the report, "the metrics used to compute the index include people (number, quality, education system), infrastructure, financials and catalysts". Top Tier cities in the index include Gurgaon, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata , Chandigarh, Mumbai and Delhi (in that order). Tier II cities are given as Mysore, Mangalore, Trichy, Coimbatore, Indore, Vizag, Nagpur and Shimla. Tier III includes Lucknow, Guwahati, Jaipur, Bhubhaneshwar, Ahmedabad, and Goa mostly in no particular order. Noida's place is not specified and three other cities are not mentioned in the report. The report also refers to a classification of potential performance. Incumbent heavyweights like Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi are called Generation I cities that will continue to attract IT business. Generation II cities like Hyderabad and Chennai are the new comers who have moved up rapidly . Generation III cities are the ones with potential for the future. THE BAD NEWS: "Laggard cities are those with a low OCC index and low performance rating." Goa, unfortunately, is included in this category!
