Can anyone shed light on the Pros and Cons of DDT usage? I remember reading recently (don't know where) that the scares of DDT were unfounded and were more of commercial rumour-mongering than true scientific fact; that the third world would benefit from the usage of DDT to rid the stagnant waters of mosquito-breeding larvae. In my youth, DDT was used to eradicate anything from ants to mosquitoes. My wife tells me that when she was a boarder in the 60s, she was regularly "shampooed" with a mixture of kerosene and DDT to get rid of head lice (cannot see any side-effects as yet apart from premature greying).
