Luxury tourist train in Karnataka soon: [India News]: Bangalore, Jan 28 : A luxury tourist train, 'Palace on Wheels', on the lines of the one in Rajasthan, had been proposed in Karnataka, state Minister for Tourism D T Jayakumar informed the Legislative Council today. The train will cover important places of tourist interest like Mysore, Shravanabelagola, Badami, Pattadakal, Aihole and culminate in Goa, he said responding to a question by N Manjunatah (Local Authorities Constituency). A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project was signed by the Karnataka government with the Ministry of Railways way back on December 20, 2002. The Tourism Ministry accorded sanction for the project at a cost of Rs 31.40 crore, Jayakumar said. To another question by Madegowda (Elected by Legislative Assembly), he said many important places of tourist interest had been selected in the state for strategic development. These include Mysore, Brindavanm Gardens, Srirangapatna, Kokkarebellur, Belur, Halebid, Shravanabelagola, Hampi, Chitradurga, Nandi Hills and Jog Falls. Building of a tourist guest house in Devala Ganagapura, a famous place of pilgrimage in Gulbarga district was being undertaken by the Muzrai department. However, in case there were any difficulties, tourism department itself will complete the project, he assured in reply to a question by Vittala (Elected by Legislative Assembly). PTI -- Cheers, Gabe.
