Dear Netters,

What I wrote on 29 Jan. seems like prophesy [in hindsight]. The wisdom of the old song, "It is one step from the jungle to the zoo; you better watch out ,or they are gonna get you ,too." will dawn on many a leopard that had changed its spots. All it needs to catch a leopard is a cage and a goat....safely enclosed in a separate section of the cage.

The saving grace of the entire event is that Dr.Willy, who had brought in the BJP into governance through the back door, was the architect of the event that threw it out of the window. As with the Legislative Assembly proceedings today, what happens hereafter is anyone's guess.

Just yesterday we had Mickkey mouse crawling into the BJP burrough. Today a
whole lot of bandicoots have fled the camp...along with the mouse. In the
rat race for the chair, the winner is still a rat. Still they may be one up
on the Pussykat.
At the Cabo, it's the time to disco. Kuan jane kisko?
Viva Goa.

On the 13th of February last year Wynoma Faria and Lenora Costa e Pereira had helped revive the "March Rataplao" so dear to its creator, Dona Bertha de Souza e Menezes[ of Farmacia Joao Menezes fame]. In her book"Swiss Kopelacho Adlo Toso Novo Ithas" she tells the story of the carnival in the same ad lib spirit as the now infamous VCD tells the story of Goa's Freedom Struggle and quotes hearsay of people who had lived in the days of the events portrayed. She correctly tells the story how "Raja ani Rani" representing the Ranes of Bicholim and Sanquelim were installed on the Sunday of Carnival as the Pro-Tem King and Queen of Mapusa for the three days of Carnival. Today, the Rataplao march was replaced by frentic movements in the new LA complex, the Swiss Guards were replaced by "Marshals"....but we still have a Rane crowned at midnight as the King of Goa well before this carnival.

Incidentally, Nepal had a carnival of its own one day earlier.

Viva Goa.
Miguel
