You will wonder why from time to time, I fwd to you,the articles of Mr. Alfredo De Mello.This is the story: Alfredo, like me, is a grandson of the village of Benaulim,of the same �Pulvaddo� ward from where my mother ( Helena Correia Afonso) came.,he being the son of the wellknown scientist and parliamentarian, Dr.Froilano de Mello.Their homes were close to the house of the mother of Fr. Jose Vas and where he was born. Besides, that as a Doctor, my father Antonio Augusto do Rego, was a friend of Dr. Froilano.They used to visit the Froilano�s in their residence at Altinho- Pangim�and here is a joke: .One of those visits was on 17th May, Froilano�s birthday.My mother asked him:�Froilano, why do you speak French with your children?�He patted his beard and replied:�Helena, because they were conceived in French�!!!! In 2000, I happened to read in the Net an article by Fred,where there was a reference to my father and since then I started corresponding with him. A friendship was born with Froilano�s son in Montevideu and Rego�s son in Goa.!! After that, he started to send to me his unpublished �MEMOIRS� which I kept fwd-ing to you.One fine day, I asked him why he did not publish them and he replied that being at Montevideo,and due to his age and related health problems, that would not be possible. I am one one of those fellows who never take NO for an answer. I contacted a young and dinamic Prof. Oscar Noronha,and owner of a publishing enterprise called � THE THE THIRD MILLINIUM�, if he would agree to publish the same memoirs under the title of �FROM GOA TO PATAGONIA�. After many letters about various aspects concerning the book, I am please that ,GOD willing, it will hit the stands by May, probably on the 17th.May, with a Foreword of Dr. Teotonio de Sousa, the well know historian, and including several speeches made by dr. Froilano in the Portuguese Parliament which so far have not been published anywhere,including a secret letter that he wrote to Dr.Salazar.Please await for further news. So this is the background. Fred continues to send to me his so far unpublished writing and I fdw them to my friends and relatives. Some days back, I sent one about URUGUAY . and now the one that follows about�.
