Dear Goanetter, Is Santosh saying that the Doctors and Hospitals in UK are wasting their time and money blood-testing all pregnant women in UK for this thalasaemia thingee?
Have the Greek Clergy got it all wrong? All I'm saying is if the Greeks are doing it, the Hospitals in UK are doing it, and the Catholics have an issue about abortion, why not make the people AWARE of the situation and that the Church is the only source by which the people can be made aware off, not all surf the net. Afra Dias (London) "I consulted my pathologist. She says that the information provided by Afra Dias is bogus on all levels. Thalassemia is indeed a genetic disease - a blood disorder caused by genetic defects in the hemoglobin. It was first described in 1925 by Cooley, as Jose said, not 10 years ago as Afra says. 15 million years ago there were no human beings in Greece or anywhere else, as Afra seems to imply. Without Thalassemia people would not have been wiped out or "off", as Afra says. Thalassemia has nothing to do with the immune system. Some varieties of this disoder provide mild resistance to severe forms of malaria. That is all. Cheers, Santosh"
