Supreme Court notice to Goa chief minister:

[India News]: New Delhi, Feb 21 : The Supreme Court Monday issued
notice to Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane on a petition filed by
his predecessor, Manohar Parrikar, challenging his dismissal earlier
this month.

Notice was also issued to the state chief secretary.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice R.C. Lohoti and judges D.M.
Dharmadhikari and B.N. Srikrishna also issued notice on Parrikar's
plea seeking stay of all actions by the government after his
dismissal.

The bench asked the respondents to file their response by Feb 26 and
directed posting of the petition for hearing Feb 28.

Appearing for the petitioner, former Atttorney General Soli Sorabjee
submitted that Goa governor S.C. Jamir, by dismissing Parrikar Feb 2
after he had won a vote of confidence in the assembly was a gross
abuse of power.

According to Sorabjee, the governor could not sit in judgement over an
order passed by the assembly speaker when that order had not been
challenged in court.
