Gilbert's confusion continues, some responses below.......

The Ribandar issue has taught us if we live 8,000 miles away (in the USA) and
have seen the sex
abuse issue by priests all over the USA news, we can write to the Archdiocese
of Goa about the
situation there. It might avoid some of the problems (if the problem even
exists in Goa) made in
the USA. First, we have to establish if there is a problem and what is being
done to identify the
problem. When I wrote to them asking if a study was done and what the results
were, you agreed
with their silence. Either bury-head-in-the-sand or
sweep-matter-under-the-carpet or deny problem
or condone silence - that's your approach. On what basis do you think the
problem may not exist
in Goa?

Any what are those things you would like to see changed and reverted? Over the
years, I have been
very explicit. How about you taking an explicit stand?

You were the one who first distracted from the topic suggesting to donate money
to help lower
caste seminarians. Then you got distracted by the topic and attacked Blessed
Vaz supporters as to
how they celebrated Jan 16. BTW, you will recall a year ago you made the same
attack and Filomena
Giese responsed in great detail what has been done over the years. But instead
of doing something
to help the cause, you have joined some of the peons in Goa cyberspace
attacking Blessed Vaz
supporters without lifting a finger to help or promote the cause.

Btw, for Mario's benefit and other Johhnys-come-lately to Goan cyberspace, in
2000 when I brought
up this issue in Goa cyberspace, I clearly said it is not about saints, but
justice in the church.
It is about allocating all the honors to Europeans and treating non-Europeans
as door-mats, about
Goans themselves acting as Vatican apologists and accepting their second-class
treatment, and the
Archdiocese of Goa doing nothing for Goans in this matter, etc. The issue of
justice in the church
is bigger than Blessed Vaz being a saint.

I have not tarred the Catholic Church. The priests who comitteed sex abuse have
done so. They have
tarred the Catholic Church NOT those who seek justice. If you think an issue of
"twenty or thirty
years ago" should be ignored, how come the USA church has paid over $1 billion
in claims recently
and 3 or 4 of the 195 dioceses in the USA have filed or are in bankruptcy over
this matter? It is
a contemporary issue.

Let me remind you, that you initially went off on a tangent as if the caste
system is not alive
and practiced in the Goa Catholic community. Please ignore these and other
stories and hang on to
fiction - http://www.geocities.com/prakashjm45/cuncolim.castewar.html. Let me
also remind you of
an earlier comment wanting to know why Hindu liberals have not done more to
eradicate the "hindu"
caste system as if Catholic Goans are innocent bystanders. Fairytales are nice
- Santa Claus, the
Easter bunny, the tooth fairy. Please don't wake up. As I mentioned previously,
the caste system
is not on my top priority of concerns, but since you have confused it with so
many issues, I have
addressed some of your mistakes.

It may be futile discussing with Gilbert and sorting through his confusion, but
I give him credit
for writing publicly. Interestingly, some Goan Catholics who network and email
each other take
the cowardly approach of private communication to hide their indefensible views
without realizing
some of their emails eventually end up in my in-box! They are best ignored and
not dignified with
comment.

George
