I think that closing of mines in Goa overnight, will create havoc with the economy. True, the open mines have created an ecological nightmare and Mineowners have become very rich. But, it is has provided daily bread to thousands of Goans for the past 40 years or so. To close mines without any provisions for the unemployed workers, will be disastrous.
COMMENT: The People of Goa hope that the Supreme Court order will be adhered to. The people also sincerely hope that the Government of Goa and the Minister concerned will ensure the swift implementation of this order. The People of Goa further trust that the Minister responsible will not look for favours from Mine owners and thereafter look the other way! The price of iron ore is literally going through the roof and some might be tempted by the Mine owners; see article below:-
