Cecil, Your point appears to be well taken. However, the Brahmin is historically in a privileged position, and a self-appointed one at that. It is very hard to recast (Dom Martinesque pun unintended) him as a victim, particularly because he is responsible for imposing the caste system in the first place. It is his turn now to be dumped on. But your broader point that there are many layers to the caste system is absolutely cogent. Among those who practice this type of bigotry today there indeed are many layers, each layer culpable to a roughly equal degree on the bigotry scale, and some layers created by the modern fusion of socioeconomic class with caste, with each layer lording it over the layer below it.
