Cong brings Goa MLAs to Mumbai http://web.mid-day.com/news/city/2005/february/104356.htm
The Congress brought its Goa MLAs to Mumbai late last night and packed them off to an unknown destination in the city. Among the MLAs was BJP man Digambar Kamat (earlier minister in Manohar Parrikar’s government) who resigned yesterday. The move is aimed at preventing the Bharatiya Janata Party from poaching on its MLAs ahead of the crucial confidence vote for Congress’ Pratapsinh Rane government on February 28. The BJP government led by Parrikar was dismissed after he won the confidence vote with a slender margin and in a controversial manner. After four MLAs supporting the BJP resigned and an independent legislator was suspended controversially, in the 36-member Assembly, both parties had an equal strength of 18. The BJP sent its MLAs to Jaipur, where it has a government, to prevent any further poaching. But the party received a major setback with Kamat’s resignation. Forwarded By Eddie Verdes Jeddah/KSA
