COMICS FOR COMMUNICATION AND DEVELOPMENT
COMICS FOR COMMUNICATION AND DEVELOPMENT "The "Comics" medium is a cost effective medium of communication with universal appeal and numerous issues can be dealt with through comics created locally" - said Mr. Sharad Sharma during the St. Xavier's College's Communication Club workshop on "Comics for Communication and Development", on 10th February, 2005, at Mapusa. Mr. Sharad Sharma, founder member of 'World Comics India' - a non-profit organisation which promotes the use of comics as a medium in social change, is a Delhi based cartoonist. Mr. Sharma highlighted the scope of comics as a potent medium in a cultural context like ours. A practical session saw each student attempting a simple 4 panel comic strip on A4 size paper to write a story close to their day-to-day life. At the end of the session, each participant submitted their comic strip on topics ranging from Aids, Valentines Day, Pollution, Road Safety, Tsunami, etc. Mr. Sharma commended the enthusiastic response and stated that the comic strips created at the workshop would be uploaded on the website of the organisation www.worldcomics.india
