Gilbert, Having lived in Mumbai, I'm not sure how you can return repeatedly to the claim that Catholic Goan casteism is a case of "mozem mauxi munta...ani tuzem samumai...". The psychological victims and family ruins of the caste system among Goan Catholics are hardly nebulous. They were all around you in Mumbai and right under your nose, including within the families of some of your close friends and colleagues.
Just last week in Goa, a friend asked whether a common acquaintence in the US was a Brahmin because he was interested in his daughter for one of his sons, and was amazed when I told him I had no idea, and then gave him my patented 15 minute rant about his hypocrisy. I know a family personally which has rejected an accomplished Goan Catholic daughter-in-law because of her caste while accepting a firangi daughter-in-law married to another son. The next time you read a Goan newspaper, just take a look at the matrimonials.
