[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Police raid houses of BJP leaders in Goa (LEAD) http://in.news.yahoo.com//050301/43/2jwxe.html Panaji, March 1 (IANS) The Goa police Tuesday raided the houses of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Sadanand Shet, party general-secretary Satish Dhond and Rajendra Janu in connection with a case of forgery. None of them could be arrested since they were not at home. All three are accused of forging Deputy Chief Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues' signature on a membership form of the BJP. Rodrigues, an independent legislator, was disqualified from the Goa assembly membership Monday under anti-defection laws. Rodrigues had earlier filed a police complaint stating that his signature was forged on the BJP membership form and that he was never a member of the party. He had also named several BJP leaders in his complaint. o Sardinha named pro-tem Speaker o It's still advantage Congress, says Gomantak Times. Paper says "there is a general belief that for once the BJP's think-tank has slipped up ... (to commit) a virtual hara-kiri of sorts". o Cong, BJP in war of allegations. BJP says Sardinha and deputy CM Filipe Neri Rodrigues, accompanied by his advocate Mahesh Sonak, attempted to enter the Speaker's office and ransack the documents pertaining to the disqualification of Neri. Interim Speaker Sardinha denied he had even gone anywhere near the office. Congress' Isidore Fernandes said he did not rule out the possibility of the outgoing Speaker removing documents pertaining to the forgery case filed by Neri against BJP leaders. He incidentally is also a long-time Goanetter (who was upset when he stopped getting Goanet recently). Former journalist and novelist Ribeiro of Porvorim will be conducting at the Monte Festival in the coming days. Another Goanetter in town is Domnic Fernandes of Anjuna/Dharan and Dom's Antique Shelf fame. Dom is known for the fascinating reminiscences he sends across to Goanet. Because of my nocturnal hours, both were just in phone call touch, inspite of being in Goa. Looking forward to more innovative Goanetters taking on more innovative projects that help Goa! INACIO FERNANDES writes from Pilar to report that the pre-novitiate looks forward to re-stage their play entitled 'Blood in El Salvador' on the life and martyrdom of Archbishop Oscar Romero, who stood for social justice and opted for the poor and oppressed. They're looking to raise funds for tsunami victims on the Andamans and Nicobar islands where the Pilar priests work. If you could offer a venue and an English-understanding audience, contact Fr. Dominic or Fr. Roy on telephone nos. 2218549 or 9823776182, or at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Another project includes an art exhibition on the theme 'Waves of Destruction, Waves of Compassion..., on March 12, 13, 17 on the Pilar hillock. Several amateur as well as professional artists are expected to contribute to this art exhibition. Part of the proceeds of the sale of paintings will go to the tsunami fund. ELEVENTH BOOK OF POEMS: Tagore Almeida <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is releasing his 11th book of poems 'Sunshine Everywhere' http://www.goacom.com/tagore. Says he: "I don't know what made me write this one, i wrote most of it over a single weekend. I look back and think, hhmm isn't it amazing how a human can react to things in their world?" We are a community of Luso-Malay descendants who originated from the Portuguese discovery of the Ocean route in teh 16th Century. When Alfonso de Albuquerque conquered Malacca in 1511, he encouraged the marriage of the native women and Portuguese. He was to create a creole people who identify themselves as "Kristang" or Christians. We speak a creole language called 'Papia Kristang", which is basically archaic Portuguese with a Malay grammar. We are all Roman Catholics. The following Colonial powers which occupied Malacca, the British and the Dutch who also intermarried with the Luso-Malay descendents, assimilated into the "Kristang Community". Being a minority race in Malaysia, the Luso descendents do not have any economic or political influence in the Government. The Portuguese Settlement in Malacca is the cultural core of the community numbering about 1,000. The Settlement has 117 residential houses. Traditionally fishermen, the community is now a tourist attraction famous for its food and cultural presentations. We will be giving more details of this unique community on this Web page. http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Paradise/9221/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- THE WEATHER BACK HOME --------------------------------------------------------------------- Today: High 31deg Low 21deg.
