PANAJI: PTI Independent legislator Filipe Neri Rodrigues, who was disqualified by former Goa Speaker Vishwas Satarkar, has approached pro-tem Speaker Francisco Sardinha for a stay on his disqualification order after resigning from the state Cabinet late Wednesday night. "Neri has given his application asking for a stay on the order. He has also asked for several other things in his application. I am still considering it," Mr Sardinha told PTI here. Sources said Mr Neri was also approaching the Panaji Bench of the Bombay High Court to challenge Mr Satarkar's decision to disqualify him based on a petition filed by BJP MLA Sadanand Shet. Mr Neri submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane as well as Governor S C Jamir late Wednesday night. Mr Jamir had, on Wednesday, ordered Mr Rane to remove Mr Rodrigues from the cabinet since he stood disqualified and could not hold a ministerial post. UGDP MLA Mathany Saldanha against whom a disqualification petition had been filed by Congress MLA Jitendra Deshprabhu, appeared before Mr Sardinha for a preliminary hearing on Thursday morning. "Saldanha appeared before me and has asked for time. I have given them time till 5 pm this evening," Mr Sardinha said. -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes. London, England
