Parrikar to amend petition against sacking:

[India News]: New Delhi, March 7 : Following the imposition of president's rule in Goa, the Supreme Court Monday permitted former chief minister Manohar Parrikar to amend a petition against his sacking.

Parrikkar had questioned the authority of Governor S.C. Jamir to sack him and replace him with Pratapsing Rane of the Congress.

On March 4 the court had told Parrikar's counsel, Soli Sorabjee, it would watch the developments in the assembly on that day, when Rane was to seek a confidence vote. It then posted the matter for hearing Tuesday.

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice R. C. Lahoti and judges D. M. Dharmadhikari and A.R. Lakshmanan Tuesday told Sorabjee he could amend the petition and put on record the proclamation imposing president's rule in the state.

When Sorabjee said the matter should not be treated as infructuous, the Bench said: "We will certainly hear you. If you want, you can amend the prayer by filing an additional affidavit."

Sorabjee agreed to examine the matter and the bench adjourned the hearing to March 14.
