Shiv Sainiks damage India Today office in Mumbai:- Mumbai | March 11, 2005 10:09:21 PM IST The Mumbai office of the 'India Today' group was on Friday ransacked by a group of around 30 Shiv Sena activists protesting an invitation to Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, who had criticised Maratha intellectual Veer Savarkar, for an awards function by a Group's magazine.
Additional Commissioner of Police S P Yadav said here, the Sainiks stormed into the India Today group's office in Jolly Makers II building at Nariman Point and caused damage to the property. However, an employee of the Group said "all the computers apart from other office equipment were destroyed and not a single PC in sight was spared." The Sainiks were protesting the Group's invitation to Aiyar for an awards function organised by its Business Today magazine, he added. Yadav said that "in the same connection, around 50 Shiv Sainiks were detained near Gateway of India" as the Union Minister was to attend the awards function at a hotel in front of the monument. "The Shiv Sainiks were trying to hold a protest but we have prevented them from doing so," Yadav added. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil visited the spot.(ANI-with other wire inputs) -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes. London, England
