One of the most frustrating things of being active in an online world is having to write to someone for 2, 3, 5 or 9 years at a stretch and virtually not get a word in reply! It's little consolation to hear, when you meet them, that they do appreciate receiving your messages.
In a way, it's rather disconcerting. You don't know who's
reading you. You don't know what the reader likes and
doesn't like. You don't know if you're on track, or even
if there's life at the other end of the modem.People also don't post to a public fora, like Goanet. "Where are all your readers, when you have just 50 to 100 people posting (at any point of time)," critics of Goanet ask.
Reasons for not posting range from fear of making a public statement (why not, we're just a network friends) to not doing it because we don't use it, to pure laziness and an overall reluctance to getting started at posting. Some will explain how busy they are. (Of course, I assure you that those of us who are posting aren't doing so because we got no better work to do!)
This is an appeal to everyone reading this message: make a difference to Goanet by resolving to send in at least one post a week. It would really help. It would make this a very useful place to be on.
You're reading this message because this network was set up, over a decade ago, by a group of visionaries (lead by Herman Carneiro) who wanted to harness technology for communicating worldwide among Goans. You've been getting it for years because another band of people has kept posting regularly and kept the forum both alive and kicking.
Think of it like this: you get Goanet for free (in money terms), but you need to 'pay' for it in some way. That payment is in terms of an at least once-weekly participation in the forum. Send out at least one message a week -- even if it's just two lines asking a small query that you and others on Goanet would gain from. Thank you! FN
