EU-India Essay Contest for Young Indian Journalists



The Delegation of the European Commission to India has launched an "EU-India Essay Contest for Young Indian Journalists 2005". The purpose of this contest is encourage young Indian journalists to learn and know more about the European Union and its relations with India. The best three entries will win a free "Information Visit" to Brussels for 3 days.

The essay has to be written in English language on one of the following topics, in minimum 2,000 and maximum 2,200 words:

* Cultural diversity: the richness that defines both Europe and India
* Regional cooperation: Can the EU be a role model for South Asia?
* Emerging geo-political scenario: EU and India as strategic partners
* EU and India: Can they together deliver on multilateral trade liberalisation?


To be eligible to participate, the journalist should be born on or after 1 January 1965 and should meet one of the following conditions:

- accredited with the P.I.B. (Press Information Bureau of the Government of India) or the relevant statutory authority in any of the Indian States / Union Territories (such as DIPR - Department of Information and Public Relations of the relevant State Government)

or

- working as a full time editorial staff member in a news agency or publication registered with the RNI (Registrar of Newspapers for India) or with a television news channel or with AIR (news division) or with a news and current affairs website.

The deadline for receipt of the essays is 2.00 p.m. IST on Monday 18 April 2005. The essay must be sent in 4 copies, along with the "Application Form", to:
