Just want to record my thianks to Dominic who wrote the konkani article about
getting married and having kids etc. I have saved it to practice on....I mean
the language. Being in Malaysia I have lost touch with konkani - surrounded by
languages like Malay, Hokkien, Mandarin, Tamil which I have learnt to
understand but speak very little - leave it to my better half to translate for
me.

Dear Viveca,

I too would like to thank Domnic Fernandes, Eddie Verdes, Lino Dourado, JoeGoaUK, Avelino D'Souza, Gaspar Almeida and all the other contributors of 'konkani' postings. Despite being born, brought up and living in Goa I must shamefully admit that my vocabulary in Konkani is disgraceful. This probably is the result of having studied in an English medium school and having had friends and associates for whom English is a first language. I speak Konkani fluently (i.e. my grammar and pronunciation is correct) but often don't know the exactly correct word and use the English equivalent. In the past few years I have learnt more Konkani words (and correctly used and explained too) from these Cyber Forums than from real life here in Goa.

Cecil

P.S.
Of course the North Goan Konkani makes much more sense but....
