A lot of good things have been said about the tenure of Pope John Paul II. Are there any interesting links to critical studies of the impact of his papacy, given his conservative politics and shifting away from earlier trends like Vatican II?

The book 'God's Politician' by David Willey was an impressive read many years back. But others have critiqued Willey, including for some factual errors he makes in his book.

It's a difficult subject to get a good piece on, given that there are strong lobbies on either side -- both hagiographers of the incumbent, and also those with competing religious or ideological persuasions out to prove the contrary. FN
