V J Thomas - Times News Network APRIL 05, 2005 01:14:33 AM NEW DELHI: Two Indians who influenced Pope John Paul II most were Mahatma Gandhi and Ravindranath Tagore and he used to quote both of them extensively. The Pope was attracted by the non-violence of the Mahatma, said archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil of Varappuzha near Kochi. The archbishop, who was a rector of the Urban University in Rome, was invited by Pope frequently to discuss about Indian religion and philosophy over lunch. Another Indian, Dr Davmani of the Gregorian University in Rome, also used to join them. The Pope's fascination for the Mahatma brought him twice to Rajghat, in 1986 and 1999. ------------- Does anyone know any Indian priest hailing from Goa working at the Vatican? Jai Hind! - Carlos
