Dears, For the last two days there is a gentle knock on the front door of my apartment. It is the man from one of the two NGOs commissioned by the Mapusa Municipal Council to collect the garbage. The seggregation at source has not begun as yet, but it is a great step forward. The dogfights at the municipal bin in front of our building have stopped.[ There is nothing for the dogs to fight over since the bin is empty.] There is a smile on the housemaid's face as she does not have to take the garbage away.
With an architect as the municipal chairman, the day may not be too far away when seggregated garbage collection will be done and the biodegradable waste converted into manure using vermicomposting or EM technology. There is a reason for hope. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Goa Desc" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > --------------------------------------------------- > Plans afoot to rid Mapusa of dustbins > ---------------------------------------------------- > In a bid to ultimately make Mapusa a dustbin-free city, > the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) today started on a trial basis, > a door-to-door garbage collection drive in 12 wards of Mapusa > by engaging the services of two private agencies. I am copying this to VU. the Vascokars can encourage the other MMC--Mormugao MC-- to do likewise. So can the Madgaonkars and others. Viva Goa. Miguel
