Dear Joe,

While I share your sentiments about the Church doing precious little to
protect its heritage structures, it is difficult to share your views about
the sacraments. Why take shelter of Konkani to bye-pass the Goanet Admin.?
Married pastors of the other denominations are doing a great job. Catholic
priest will be no worse for their marriage, if permitted. This is highly
unlikely, given that the majority of the Cardinals are conservative. It is
not easy to upturn the tradition of 1600 odd years.[Historically there was a
Bishop of Rome, but no Pope for the first few Centuries till Emperor
Constantine came along.] St.Peter, the ex-post facto first Pope, had a
mother-in-law and ,therefore, must have been married. St.Paul mended tents
to earn a living while preaching the word of God. Work and marriage are not
detrimental to witnessing for Christ. Heaven is not filled with virgins and
chaste bachelors

Both of Abe Faria's parents received the sacrement or holy order. His father
became a priest and his mother became a nun. If they received the
'annointing of the sick'[ earlier Extreme Unction], they would have received
all the seven sacraments. I know a few priest who left the holy order and
got married. They are six down and one sacrament left before dying or when
very sick.

If one's children are old enough to look after themselves, and one's wife is
not dependent on the husband[being a working wife, divorced or dead], a man
can become a priest after marriage. Any takers enroute the seven sacraments?
Married men, who later become priests, would be amply qualified to conduct
marriage formation courses[ made compulsory for canonical marrige in Goa].
Right now such courses are conducted by priests who know nothing about
marital adjustments [even if some of them know about sex] or by married
couples of doubtful knowledge about Christian theology or catholic
cathechism. Some of them are even "believers" but their mother church knows
it not.

Viva Goa.
