IN TODAY'S EZINE: New Pope's election news reaches Goa late evening. Trade
shut-down in protest against VAT makes its impact felt in the State... but
maybe curbing tax-leakages could be a good thing! Usual features.
        
        NEWS OF THE NEW POPE'S election reached Goa a little
        after 9 pm Tuesday. TV flashed it first, with even
        Hindi channels putting out a 'breaking news' note. Some
        passed the word around via SMS on mobile phones.

        AIR-INDIA'S LOW-COST NO-FRILLS AIRLINE Air-India Express
        takes wings in the Gulf sector in ten days time. It is
        to begin operations on April 29. In the first phase, the
        budget airline would serve Abu Dhabi to Mumbai,
        Delhi, Tvm, Kochi and Kozhikode (Calicut). UNI

o TRADE BANDH (SHUTDOWN) SUCCESSFUL IN GOA, to protest against VAT. 
  Traders are clearly opposed to the new value-added tax and
  claim they have the interests of consumers at heart; some view
  their stand as meant to continue with business as usual -- in
  a country where most simply evade paying taxes. 

o RIOT IN PARYEM, SATTARI with 50 persons from the Majik and
  Gaonkar groups clashing over a dispute concerning the
  mahajanaki (mahajan-ship) of the Bhumika Temple. (NT)

o INDIA'S SUPREME COURT ADJOURNED till after the summer vacations
  the hearing on a petition by former Goa CM Manohar Parrikar,
  challenging the dismissal of his government by Governor Jamir.(UNI)

o WATERLOGGING AROUND PANJIM AFTER LIGHT RAINS: Authorities got a 
  feel of what it could be once monsoons start, as some parts of
  Panjim -- including the Miramar Circle -- experienced water logging
  following light showers in the pre-dawn hours of Monday. (H)

o Sant Inez locality divided over use of a community well. Residents
  apparently owing alleigance to councillor Yatin Parekh allegedly
  ransacked a house and assaulted a resident, after one Philomena

        long bone fragments in the ruins of the Augustine complex

EGG CHUTNEY: 3 eggs, 1 coconut, 2 green chillies, 2 onions, 1 small piece
ginger, 2 spoons ghee, salt to taste.

        Beat the eggs well, scrape the coconut, mince the chillies,
        ginger and onions. Mix all together with salt to taste.
        Heat the ghee in a frying pan on the fire, add the beaten
        egg mix and stir. Cook for 10 minutes till the onion is
        cooked and mixture is dry. For six persons.
