Rebello Does It Again For Navelim Melroy Rebello scored his consecutive second hatrick in the Bahrain Goans Seven-a-side Football League for Father Felcio Diniz Trophy as Verna crumbled under pressure of Navelim loosing 8 - 1.
In the match played at East Riffa open ground on Friday, Verna without their regular goalkeeper allowed Navelim strikers to score at will and Rebello topped the list with 5 goals. The two former senior division players from Goa Henry Fernandes and Ciril Baretto added one each and substitute Ronnie Rebello rounded off the tally for Navelim while the consolation goal for Verna came off the boots of Joaquim Fernandes. In the matches played at Al Qadisiya ground on Wednesday night Chinchinim and Vasco opened their account on the points table with a 1 - 1 draw. Chinchinim took the lead soon after the breather through Concy D'Souza and Alfredo Fernandes converted a floater from the flag post with a fine header to equalise for Vasco. Inacio Vales played a pivotal role in marshaling the Vasco defence and a couple of superlative saves by the Vasco goalkeeper Joseph Fonseca denied full points to Chinchinim. In the other match Benaulim and Canacona took to the field with a sense of urgency but the front-line of both the teams failed to translate their opportunities into goals and the first half ended goal less. Early in the second half Michael D'Souza connected a measured cross with a rasping left footer to put Benaulim ahead and minutes later he used his other foot to beat Canacona goalkeeper Angus Arokiaswamy to seal the victory for his team 2-0. Referee Sadanand Naik booked AP Prasad of Benaulim for dangerous play.
