The bottom line is that if you do not believe that caste DISCRIMINATION exists among Catholic Goans, you are entitled to this erroneous opinion and there is nothing more to discuss. Gilbert writes: > > Also before you condemn Fr. Jerome, why don't you > take the trouble to read his own original writings > and speeches rather than rely on some selected > quotes of his speech - which may perhaps be further > distorted by you. Don't you think that makes sense? > If you cannot lay your hands on Fr. Jerome's > speeches to the constituent assembly you may want to > show your maturity and hold your fire. > Mario replies: I would rather accept the opinion of Fr. Izzo, S.J. who wrote in the article in America magazine that Fr. Jerome D'Souza, S.J. told the Indian Constituent Assembly that there was no caste in Christianity. Why? Because "outcaste-Catholics" were excluded from the list of Scheduled Castes and Tribes in the Indian Constitution, which supports Fr. Izzo's position of what Fr. Jerome said and not Gilbert's insinuations. If Gilbert has any evidence that Fr. Izzo was wrong, he should demand a correction by writing to him at America magazine, not waste our time on Goanet.
