I was at the Anjuna flea market today (where else on a Wednesday!) and asked people for feedback on Gilbert's proposal. Here is a sampling: 1. Mr. D'Souza from Benaulim lost a foot and believes Gilbert's rule should be amended to one-foot, 50 years. "Don't discriminate against people with one foot," he said to me. 2. Mrs. Fernandes from Moira says she has difficulty telling people's ages, especially the age group 45-55. "They all look the same to me, so maybe the age limit should be 45 just to be safe", she said. 3. Anjali Mauzo from Miramar says multi-nationals are brainwashing Indians to buy beauty products at great profit to the companies. These products make 35 year-olds look 50, in some cases even 55. Anjali would like the age limit dropped to 35. 4. Swen, visiting Goa from Sweden, says the rule should be half meter, not two feet. "I grew up studying in meters. My father told me 'think meters' my son and you will go far in life, further than those who think in feet and yards. He was right, here I am in far-away Goa thinking meters again." Swen, I said to him, here is some friendly advice: don't drink the feni so fast, it is not scented bottled water. 5. A man who did not want to give his name, said we should be using Vedic math. Under the current lunar calculation, it should be 68.4 years, not 50. "Christians should not impose their Math on others, including other Christians who follow Vedic math." 6. A woman who did not want to give her name, said she is 55+ and is still very seductive, just like those women in 'Desperate Housewifes'. "Should the age limit be raised to 60", she asked.
