Panaji May 4: The president of Goa Pradesh Congress
Committee, Mr Luizinho Faleiro, has reiterated that
those who �sacrificed� their seats in the legislative
assembly to topple the Bharatiya Janata Party
government should be nominated to contest the June 2
by-elections in five assembly constituencies in the
state.
Addressing a press conference here this morning, Mr
Faleiro told reporters on his return here from New
Delhi that he has conveyed to the party high command
the resolution of the GPCC urging that all those who
sacrificed their seat be given Congress tickets to
contest the by-elections.
Mr Faleiro said that though the GPCC has decided to
contest all the five seats it was for the party high
command top decide whether one of the seats be given
to one of the alliance partners. The final decision on
seat sharing, if any, will be taken by the party high
command, he added.
�For us the understanding with our partners of the
short-lived United Legislative Party comprising
Nationalist Congress Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak
Party and United Goans Democratic party, besides us
still stands,� he said.
Mr Faleiro said that whether he remains the president
of the party or not he would strive his best for the
success of the party candidates in all the five
constituencies in the by-elections.
The GPCC leader further said that post of party
president was not a mere position for him but a
mission and that he had undertaken it when it was
offered to him. He said his mission was to topple the
BJP government which was destroying the secular image
of Goa even as it was unleashing a terror regime and
�strangulating� democracy.
�I am happy that during my tenure as the party
president we dismantled the autocratic and fascist
regime of the BJP which was terrorising its political
opponents and those who dared its dictatorial rule,�
he said.
He appealed to the people, particularly the voters in
the five constituencies where elections are due on
June 2, to support the Congress and to vote for its
candidates.
