Our local parish spent a bit in remodelling the Church building, demolishing the old "confessional" and building a "reconciliation room", where the priest and the penitent can be seen from outside the "reconciliation room" by everyone, but not heard. Then again, in the old days in Goa, the confessionals (esp. in the Panjim Church) there was a metal sheet barrier (with small holes) in between the priest and the female penitent (we boys used the other non-barriered side). The priests rarely heard confessions of female penitents in the sacristy - this was only reserved for males - what changes took place since 1980 I don't know. Cheers, Gabriel de Figueiredo.
