NO ELECTRICITY (only came in our area around 1973/74) a. NO FRIDGE No chilled water but we had 'Gurgureth' earthern pot where water pours out from a cock beak. It kept water cool for days. I used to fill it up with about 10 ltrs of water once in 3/4 days. b. NO FREEZER No freezer to keep excess meat/fish etc but we kept aside by aplying salt but the taste was never the same as fresh. c.NO FANS We used hand-held fans of various shapes round, oval etc usually made up of Banboo weaving. We used to buy them in bulk from the fair Goa-Velha (Santa Pursao). Plus during the summer nights we kept our windows wide open. We even slept out in the open (local play ground). d. NO BULBS, TUBES We had Chimney Lamps and other kerosine lamps. Occasionally, we used our petromax. I still remember, churches/Tiatr at night using Petromax in bulk and the owner used to bring them dowm from the ceiling for re-pumping say for every 45minuts. e.NO ELECTRIC IRON But we had other iron which used coal (usually burnt Coconut shells). Our neighbours used to borrow from us. Other things they borrowed from us.. I remember truck load of fuel log wood were coming around shouting 'Zollov' 'Zollov'. 3 or 4 neighbours used to come to gether and buy the whole lot and then share. Chuddttam-pidde were also used. Besides, dry leaves were always used for heating water (for taking bath) leaves like Ambea palo, Bhendde palo, Zamblli palo etc NO PHONES NO MOBILES (started 1993/94 & 2000) We wrote letters.
