Ever since a law dating back to Portuguese times (pre-invasion in some perspectives, post-invasion by others) that banned "inadequately" clad women and non-Westernly clad men from entering Goa's urban areas, even the birds here have ended up a terribly confused lot.
To complicate matters, after the 'sixties, we had the flower power generation (not of the nectar kind) who insisted it was perfectly right for them to colonise the beaches without their clothes on. There is no end to this game of colonising, innit?
And our ruling politicians of the time, being Liberated too (oops!) agreed with this contention, and castigated the women from Calangute who were protesting against nudism while wearing sleeveless blouses themselves.
You would have probably noticed during your visits to Goa that they now, at best, wear feathers. Not bikinis. FN
