I wish not to set the LIMITS of what one can/should or not on Goanet, but I feel that there should be NO BASHING of any religion or anyone anywhere.
Bashing after all means: Criticizing (another) harshly, accusatorially, and THREATENINGLY.
Do we really need to criticize (another) harshly, accusatorially, and threateningly?
I don't think so.
I agree however that No Religion, Issue or Person should get a free pass Anywhere.
If Criticism is due, it MUST be proferred.
If we don't, we are like the Fence Sitters, Hypocrites, and two-Faced Cowards.
Let me ask this once again: (The last time I asked this question, I was almost excoriated on the "private" email circuit )
Does anybody disagree that the following should have been (should still be) Roundly Criticised :
1. The Paedophile priests who abused innocent children 2. The Bishops and Cardinals who kept KNEW and kept silent about the matter 3. The Catholic individuals who were aware but kept silent about the matter
4. Those who FALSELY accused innocent priests of abuse.
5. Those who had a special business related agenda, and VENDETTA against a particular priest - and hence accused the priest (rightly or wrongly) of abuse.
6. The Hypocrite Hindutva fellas who were gloating about the Catholic Church's woes while themselves keeping silent about the abuse that Hindu swamis and other "godmen" inflict on the young women who come there for spiritual assistance ....and the devadasis
7. Those who complain hoarse about the Inquisition (rightly) but keep totally silent about the butchery of the Buddhists and the women whom they brainwashed into commiting "Sati"
I have to add this bit even if it is solely for Gilbert's benefit: Santosh Helekar has been an equal opportunity critic of ALL forms of Injustice and Abuse perpetrated on others.
Saying that he specializes in being prejudicial to any one religion or belief, is a sign of some striking ignorance of Santosh's writings over the past 10 or so years that we have read from him.
I too invite Gilbert to do the right thing and withdraw the bogus charge that Santosh does not criticize Hindu beliefs.
