In response to this from me: I also disagree with you that Goans should "arm themselves to defend themselves". Any "arm" the average Goan buys, the GOONS will buy better. In this "arms race", Goans will not only be impoverished - they will also be quite Dead.

Dear Samirbab,

I don't know the facts of that Alemao case. So, I will not comment. After reading BOGUS accounts on Kargil and the " Huge Ha Ha" (1961) build-up of Portuguese troops and armaments in Goa, I have a healthy distrust of official inquiries and statements.

I hear you when you describe the helplessness of the present situation in Goa. I hear you. I agree with your evaluation, but disagree with the remedy you prescribe.

This whole situation which has developed in Goa is nothing novel, nor was it unexpected. No politician I know comes to Anybody's help for altruistic reasons.

Do you still believe that Nehru et co sent the army to "liberate" Goans OR only to kick Salazar out and "take over" ? (BTW: Please revisit the actions of those in Goa and Portugal who participated in the anti-Vasco da Gama demonstrations. What were some of the "personal" considerations of the folks involved ? )

It all revolves round Poixe my dear friend .... all round Poixe.

Are Goans in Goa in 2005 (even the Goan goons) really in control, or are decisions made for them in Delhi?

Is this the Goa that the Freedom Fighters planned for? assuming that they planned anything at all.

The ONLY part of the whole 1961 exercise I support is the fact that Goans did NOT (perhaps because of their inner smartness) participate in any of the "action" - neither the fighting, killing, looting nor raping.

They did not even utter a word when Candeth came and disabled the pre-Portuguese GOAN institution i.e. the Communidades ( Never mind what Vivian D'Souza says about them ).

Perhaps the Goans realised ... Ah Well what is different. One set of Dictators & Agente Monteiros left, another set came in. Let's just get on with our lives .. as much as we can. And if we cannot .... let's go elsewhere (be in Bangalore or Bahamas) and do the best we can.

Please see what Iraqi doctors have decided ... Time to Move

1. Vivian D'Souza:< In my humble opinion communidade property should be considered to be public property for the good of all the citizens and not just the Gaunkars. Abolishing the Communidade system will also saveexpenditures on a layer of bureaucracy - The "Administrador" which is a legacy of colonialism >

2. Facing Chaos, Iraqi Doctors Are Quitting

In the past year, about 10 percent of Baghdad's total force of 32,000 registered doctors - Sunnis, Shiites and Christians - have left or been driven from work, according to the Iraqi Medical Association, which licenses practitioners. The exodus has accelerated in recent months..
