Hi Tony,
Many thanks for enlightining me, and others, about the Catholic Goan caste situation in Tanzania. You sure have more horror stories than I have over caste based interaction!

When I have some time, I will send Goanet a post on my observation, with others, of the temporary 'dilution' of caste awareness/intensity, borne out of necessity, when large numbers of young Goans came to London, singly, in the 1960s, prior to many of their parents subsequently joining them. This relatively short period also preceded the establishment of Goa village-based associations in London. These I have never approved of because I felt that they had the seeds of caste within them which would germinate and take root in time.
Regards,
Cornel

I am also aware that at the Goan Gymkhana,Nairobi, non-Brahmin males
who were admitted after independence, were refused dances by Brahmin
girls; whilst male brahmins never danced with female non-brahmins
even though in some cases, they were classmates their entire school
life.
