Hello Goanetters, This is only my observation
As an Aldona resident, and on a short holiday, I very regularly travel on the small buses that are now in use to go to Mapuca. Unlike the earlier years where the buses used to be big, now they have small buses and almost all buses have a music system, which I have no idea if it is meant for the passengers or for the driver to avoid falling asleep on the 8 kilometers drive. Till date I am yet to hear Konkani songs being played on this short journey, as mostly they play Hindi songs. I wonder what the reason is. May be they are ashamed of their mother tongue. This practice is not only on this route, but also on the Bombay Goa Route. It would be nice to hear Konkani songs and make all non-Goans visiting Goa, familiar with our music, as they are familiar with our Fenny. Also so many movies that come, on VCDs, Konkani ones, to be screened on the Volvo buses, unless they feel ashamed of our Konkani. I wonder if this practice is followed in other parts of Goa. Especially in the south and if they play Konkani songs there, as once I did hear Lornas songs Aikat mozo tallo, many years back, when private buses used to ply on Panjim to Margao route. Now its only, Kadamba. Cheers Jerry Fernandes Riyadh/Aldona
