Mario Goveia asks:
Morality aside, in India who pays for the treatment of
the illnesses that smokers suffer that are far greater
and far more serious than the non-smoking population?

------

Dear Mario,

Pray tell me who pays for the treatment of people who have heart problems because they eat foods high in cholesterol content? Does the Government police their kitchens or restrict their diet at home?

The ' societal cost' theory that you propose has been disproved time and again, whether for mandatory helmets or non-intrusive smoking.

Cheers!

Cecil
