Meeting of task force committee on malaria held

Ms. Debashree Mukerjee, secretary (Health), chaired
the meeting of the Task Force Committee on Malaria held
at Secretariat, Porvorim, today.
The anti-malaria month campaign is launched for prevention
and control of malaria as well as other vector-borne diseases
like filaria, dengue, Japanese encephalitis through behaviour
change communication.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Mukerjee said a caution and
care should be taken to control this disease. She said more
emphasis is given on involvement of community in prevention
of vector-borne diseases by the Behaviour Vector Borne
Disease Control Programme, Delhi.
Further speaking she said the risk of malaria during monsoon
and post-monsoon is increasing manifold on account of the
increased breeding of vector mosquitoes responsible for
spreading malaria and other vector-borne diseases.
We should engage labourers who hold health card because
most of these migrated labourers carry diseases and spread
them in our tiny Goa, she added.
Speaking on the vector-borne disease scenario in Goa, the
deputy director (NVBCP), Dr. Dipak Kabadi said that in
the intensive drive to facilitate diagnosis of malaria case,
diagnostic kits have been supplied to all the primary health
centres in the state.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. A.V. Salelkar, director
of Health Services, GMC dean, Dr. C P Das,
Dr. S A Deshprabhu, Labour Commissioner,
Ms. Rajani Verenkar, doctors and health officers.
